LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Technical and management consultant Aecom Technology Corp. said Tuesday it has received $19.3 million contract to complete the second phase of a Dallas light rail expansion project.

The Dallas Area Rapid Transit project is to complete a 26.5-mile light rail line and expand 20 miles of two others. Aecom will provide project control, system integration and staff support services.

The Los Angeles company said it's the first of three possible one-year option periods.

Aecom said its work on the light rail contract began in 2002 and has a value so far of $58.1 million.

Shares rose 81 cents, or 3 percent, to $27.42 in afternoon trading.

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--AECOM Technology Corporation (NYSE: ACM - News), a leading provider of professional technical and management support services for government and commercial clients around the world, announced today that it was awarded an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract for the Africa Peacekeeping Program (AFRICAP).

AFRICAP is the primary support services contract used by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of African Affairs. The program establishes an ordering mechanism for selected contractors to provide military training, strategic advisory services, equipment procurement, logistical support services and construction services consistent with the U.S. Department of State peacekeeping policies for developing countries in Africa.

Under the contract, AECOM will work under the oversight of the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of African Affairs, Office of Regional and Security Affairs, and the U.S. Sudan Special Envoy and in close coordination with the department’s organizational elements.

AECOM is one of four companies to win the five-year contract, which has a maximum value of US$375 million per company.
