Does this "Tesla secret generator" really work?

I came across this site that shows this generator that was designed by Nikola Tesla back in the 1930's. I was just wondering if anyone has built one like it and whether or not it actually works before I go wasting my money on it. It seems like it is legit and there is video of it working, but I just thought I would check in here to see if anyone has any experience with this. Any advice or insight would be much appreciated.
