Default Geothermal will save us all

Personally I feel one of the best renewable sources out there is geothermal. It can be scaled up and centralized geothermal power plants can be built as is explained in this short video created to show off the CalEnergy geothermal plant.

But what I think is more fascinating is that geothermal can keep your house warm in the winter and cool in the summer using the natural steady temperatures of the earth. It's 100% renewable and almost completely free after the initial installation, hence will pay for itself quickly. Although it won't generate power for you on a residential scale, it does take away the energy required for heating and cooling your house, which is the largest user of power in the modern home. I feel that this would make an enormous impact on the grid, especially in hot places where AC units run almost around the clock.

Here is a great example of how it works with a single home

I read recently that Indonesia plans to power over 4,000,000 homes with Geothermal. That is unbelievable!

That is defiantly great to hear, and very amazing. I am assuming they will be doing a centralized geo-thermal project?

I have heard about it and I do believe that using geothermal power plants as a power is really great as it help us to cut our energy bill and also it is renewable so we can use it continuously..

Geothermal is also available for the typical home owner, but I haven't been able to get much info on how much they cost, cost to operate and how well they function in sub freezing weather.

Any one care to educate us?

If we didn't have to drill so deep it would be even cheaper.
Some say it is possible and will be even more beneficial.

Geothermal for the home is a great investment. Contrary to what some believe you don't have to drill way down to harness the natural heating and cooling properties of the earth.

The geothermal energy is easily available. In many parts of the world the geothermal energy is considered to be an affordable and sustainable solution to reduce the dependence on fossil fuels as well reduce global warming.
Few facts about geothermal energy –
• Approximately about 25% or more electricity is produced by Geothermal plants in Philippines, Iceland, and El Salvador.
• In California more than 40 geothermal plants provide nearly 5% of state’s electricity.
• The eight states in United States have more than 3,000 megawatts geothermal capacity.

Conserve Energy to save the nature.

At the most basic level, Geothermal heat pump systems transfer heat and cold between the earth and the interior of your home or building. Closed loop systems are by far the norm; they absorb heat from the warmer ground in winter and pump it into the home or building. The reverse process occurs in summer: fluid circulating through the system’s ground loop of tubing absorbs heat from the house and radiates it into the ground. Coefficient of Performance (CoP) the ratio of heat provided (in Btus) per Btu of energy input indicates a GHP’s heating efficiency. Cooling efficiency is indicated by the Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER), The essential components of a geothermal heat pump system are a looped, in-ground network of tubing typically polyethylene or copper; a heat exchanger, a heat pump, a compressor, a fan, and the water or anti-freeze that circulates through the system and serves as the medium for absorbing and shedding heat and cold between the ground and the home.
