Default Eager to get involved!

Hi everyone,

I am a Aircraft technician in the British Army. However, I have recently handed in my notice. I have always been intrigued by wind power and am eager to get involved. I know a few people from the same background who have gone on to work in the wind turbine sector and I am sure my skills are transferrable.

Does anyone know where I would start? I am based in Essex, UK. I know of an offshore wind farm nearby and an onshore windfarm in cambridgeshire.

Just reading a job advert for a wind turbine engineer/technician filled me with excitement. Working at heights, outdoors in adverse weather, small teams. Also engineering wise, I have a strong mechanical background with helicopter transmission.

Being involved in what will undoubtedly be a big part of the future is also exciting.

Does anyone have any advise as how to get myself in?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Stu

Correction,

When I said recently handed in my notice, I meant last september. This matters a little as it otherwise means I still have a year to push. That isn't the case. I will be out in August with possible early release if I get a job.

Thanks

Stu

Hello, Stu. Welcome to Nature2Energy. I'm sure the way to find a job in the wind industry is the same as finding a job in other industries: look for advertisements seeking applicants. Failing that, nearly all companies these days have a link on their homepage where you can apply/find out about applying for jobs at their company. Good luck.

A watt saved is better than a watt generated, since it always costs less than 10% as much, and can cost as little as 1%.

V=volt, A=ampere, Ah=ampere hour, Wh= watt hour, VOC=open circuit voltage, ISC=short circuit current, VMPP=voltage @ max power, IMPP=current @ max power, BTW=by the way, your=belongs to you, you're=you are, too=in addition to, two=1+1, to=towards
